About Anita Stewart - Culinary Activist, Member of the Order of Canada

Among her many honours, Anita Stewart is a recently announced Order of Canada. Her profile, particularly among Canada’s food professionals, is exemplary. She has spoken, written, lobbied and organized across Canada and internationally for nearly three decades and the message is always the same; Canada’s food is as exotic and delicious as any on earth; our agricultural and culinary talent can hold their own with any.

Academically she is the first Canadian to graduate with a M.A. in Gastronomy and was recently awarded a Doctor of Laws (Honouris Causa). She holds an honourary P.Ag. designation and a lifetime membership in the Canadian Culinary Federation of Chefs and Cooks.

She is also an organizer with a few of the highlights being as the co-host with Gerry Ritz of a media breakfast at both the 2010 Olympics and Calgary Stampede; a NYC Virtual Tasting in partnership with the Canadian Tourism Commission; the development and administration all the Food Day Canada Awards including the Culinary Journalism Award for American food writers; the creation of menus and plan for three University of Guelph “Think Big” summits in partnership with the Office of the President; the creation of the menus for the Canadian pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hannover, Germany and the foundational work she did for both the establishment of Cuisine Canada and the national Barbecue that has become Food Day Canada.

Chef Michael Smith, Canada’s best-known chef is a passionate advocate for simple, sustainable home cooking and an inspiration for families creating their own healthy food lifestyle. He’s the winner of the James Beard Award for Cooking Show Excellence and host of Chef Michaels Kitchen, Chef Abroad, Chef at Home and Chef at Large seen on Food Network Canada and in more than 100 other countries.

Michael is Prince Edward Island’s food ambassador, an award winning cookbook author, newspaper columnist, professional chef and home cook. Although Michael is a true chef at large his favourite role is Dad, home on Prince Edward Island with his partner Chastity, her daughter Ariella, his son Gabriel and their new baby on the way! Michael is an avid map collector, long-time windsurfer and novice kite sailor.
